Background :
When Midnight was young, his family was primarily fighting in the Ninja War; no real time to spend with him. Of course, when there are holidays, all is well in the world. During some holidays, the war is put on pause for the time being and the ninja who are still alive and aren't severely wounded are sent home to be with their families. This is much more like a false happiness because when a family member comes home wounded, other family members are happy they're alive, but then remember that they will soon be returning to the same thing that got them injured in the first place, with no real way of knowing that they'll make it alive to the next holiday or the end of the war.

Midnight's family was much like the typical fighting families; his dad was a Jounin fighting in the war and his mother a Medical Ninja. Midnight has no brothers or sisters that he knows of. It's become apparent to Midnight himself that there is a period of his childhood that he can't remember and any attempts to recall it, including up to B rank jutsu, leave him losing consciousness for around 2 hours along with disrupting the flow of chakra within him, preventing jutsu from continuing.

For none of these reasons, Midnight hates his parents. The reason he hates his parents is for the fact that they ignore him every chance they get. Sure, they were good parents to him as he was a baby and such, but once he was able to fend for himself, they pretty much abandoned him. Any and all attempts at conversation with his parents left Midnight with bruises and emotional scars. None of these were self inflicted in any way. For example, every time his parents came home from the war, Midnight would greet them at the door with a smile and have already prepared dinner. Be it mother or father, each would push past him without a second thought and go to the dining room and eat. If both parents came home, Midnight's mother would go to the dining room, while Midnight's father would stop at the door. From there, all Midnight can remember is hiding his face in the corner of the room while his dad would take his anger out on him.

At this point, Midnight still didn't hate them. Midnight is able to recall that news had spread of the war coming to an end and that many troops were coming back. However, there was still the final assault left before it would officially end. Since his parents ignored him, no one was left around the house to take care of him. That being said, Midnight received a letter that even his mother was going to the front lines of the war to fight. Midnight was worried about his parents and decided to eat sweets since it comforted him. Despite his parents ignoring him, they still had plenty of food in the house for three people. The next few weeks are a blur in Midnight's memory and then just the empty period of his life where he doesn't know at all what happened. However, when he can remember his life after it, Midnight is able to recover feelings from his memory of them after the emptiness. None of them were good.

Midnight jumped from a nearby tree to land next to Death. His actions being nearly soundless by channeling chakra into the loose parts of his clothing. Unlike his regular yellow clothing and lollipop, he wore stealthy black clothing. There were various zippers all over the outfit, seeming useless. Along with his dark outfit which had make a type of cape or cloak that hung loosely and blew in the wind, he wore a black top hat with a red ribbon. The weapons pouches were in their typical place near the back of his pants. As for his daggers though, they were moved from being in the front of his thighs to the sides of them, where he was currently resting his arms. Midnight had also dyed his hair to a deep blue, nearly matching the dark shade of the rest of him, completely concealing his identity from anyone, except those who really knew him for a long time, such as childhood friends.

Besides the change of attire, Midnight had also gained a summoning scroll. He had made a blood contract with the Panthers, their great speed and power interesting him greatly. The stealthiness of the great animals had also seemed to influence the way he was dressing, the dark colors easily meshing with the darkness of the night. He wondered who would be best used for a battle of this magnitude, village warfare. He knew he wouldn't be met with too much resistance, but he also needed to be able to do massive amounts of damage to key points of the village. For the most part, he considered using Boom for damaging places, Futatsu in case he was needed in more that one place, or even Naito if he was met with a difficult opponent. For now, he did nothing, waiting for the best time to summon one.

He looked to Death and decided to speak to him, but not in the regular language other people used. Midnight spoke, speaking in the language of the owls. "So, are we ready to begin?" To do this properly and not just be a fool trying to imitate a real owl, Midnight used Ikimono Benkou, or Animal Speech, to speak. Sure, other owls might hear him, but they were of no importance. As he asked this, Midnight had crouched down on the gate and withdrew Jolly Rancher bombs from his weapons pouch, placing three in each hand between his fingers. He had also turned to face the village, now silhouetted by the moon. The clouds had apparently scattered, leaving the moon to shine brightly down on the planet. It almost seemed to spotlight the Hokage building as the light shone off its white siding to attract all attention to it. Midnight's attention wasn't drawn to it, however, he paid attention to what was behind the building, the Hokage faces. He didn't plan on destroying the only one unnecessarily, but knew it was a village symbol. Typically if things that represent a village are gone or destroyed, moral would go down as well as pique the interest of the superstitious.

Like Caesar, the rain before the battle was a dark omen only foreboding greater tragedies.
